Hydrocotyle bonariensis is a widespread coastal species native to the southeastern USA, Mexico, Central and South America, Africa and Madagascar; introduced to Australia and elsewhere. It grows in sandy, periodically inundated, soils along the coastline, in estuaries, and sand dunes; readily colonizes disturbed sites. This plant is a perennial herb; stems creeping and rooting at the nodes. The leaves are round, with scalloped edges, 1.5-5 cm in diameter. Umbels compound, with tiny white to creamy-yellow flowers. In USA, it flowers from April to September. Some contemporary taxonomists place this species in Araliaceae.
